PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING: WHAT DO WE MEAN BY “LIVE-IN”?

This is a true live-in position with one private client—not an hourly shift, overnight shift, or occasional agency live-in assignment.

You will:

• Relocate and move into the client’s private home
• Have your own private bedroom in the home
• Sleep in the client’s home on your scheduled work nights
• Help the client on and off throughout each day, as needed
• Provide memory support, companionship, supervision, meal preparation, medication reminders, household assistance, and other daily support
• Help the client maintain a safe, active, and engaging daily routine
• Receive scheduled breaks to leave the home based on the agreed-upon schedule

To qualify, you must have completed at least two verifiable live-in caregiving or companion jobs where you lived in one client’s private home and had your own bedroom. At least one job must have lasted six months or longer, and the second must have lasted at least three months.

If you have not yet completed this type of live-in work, please do not apply for this position.

Instead, visit the Live-in Caregiver Association at LCA.care. You can learn about the challenges of live-in care, take live-in caregiver courses, and use its job board to find opportunities to gain experience. After successfully completing the required live-in jobs with other employers, we welcome you to apply for future client positions recruited by Grandma Joan—where the big money can be made!

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER YOU APPLY

  1. Submit an application and answer the qualification questions established for this client’s position.

  2. Complete an eight-question telephone screening with Ashley, Grandma Joan’s AI Recruiter Assistant.

  3. Provide at least two verifiable live-in care or companion references. Grandma Joan will verify your experience and references against the client’s stated requirements.

  4. Grandma Joan may present qualified candidates to the family for consideration. The family decides which candidates it wishes to interview.

  5. Candidates selected by the family will interview directly with the family by Zoom. This is your opportunity to learn more about the client’s needs, interests, responsibilities, household, schedule, and proposed employment terms.

  6. The family—not Grandma Joan—makes all hiring decisions. If the family chooses to offer you the position, the family will provide a written employment offer describing the proposed compensation, schedule, duties, and other employment terms.

  7. If you accept the family’s conditional employment offer, you must complete the required background check and drug screening. Final employment is contingent upon satisfactory results. The family and its payroll provider will coordinate payroll enrollment and employment onboarding. The anticipated move-in date is normally approximately two weeks after the family hires its selected candidate.  Many of our clients offer to pay for the live-in's travel expenses to relocate to the client's home.

EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP

Grandma Joan has been retained by the family solely as an independent, third-party recruiter. Grandma Joan advertises the position, screens applicants against the family’s stated requirements, verifies candidate information and references, and introduces qualified candidates to the family.

Grandma Joan does not employ or co-employ caregivers or companions and does not make the family’s hiring decisions. The family decides whom to interview and hire and is solely responsible for determining compensation, schedule, duties, supervision, working conditions, continued employment, and termination.

The selected companion will be employed and paid directly by the family as a W-2 household employee through the family’s payroll service. Any employment offer will come from the family, and the companion and family will agree directly on all employment terms.
